About

Colours of the Gate is a Baldur’s Gate 3 charity fanzine dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the diverse queer identities in the game we love and in our community. Contributors and characters of all queer identities are welcome; we aim to produce a zine that is as diverse as the community making it. In particular, we want people of color, sapphic, trans, and gender diverse folks to know they are not only welcome on this project but encouraged to apply. Both canon and tav/durge ships are welcome, as are solo and platonic works. This project will be raising funds for four LGBTQ+ charities:- The Trevor Project
- Transgender Law Center
- Mermaids UK
- Stonewall

FAQ

What is a zine?
A zine is a fan-made magazine centered around a certain fandom, character, or other interest. It is non-official, non-professional, and produced entirely by fans.
Will the zine be physical or digital?
In an effort to keep costs and production time low, the zine will be digital only.
Will this be a charity zine?
All proceeds from the zine will be donated to the following organizations:
The Trevor Project
Transgender Law Center
Stonewall
Mermaids
How will finances be handled?
We will not be handling any money. Individuals will donate a minimum of $5 USD (or the equivalent in your local currency) to one of the four listed charities, screenshot the receipt, and will upload this to the order form in order to be emailed the zine.
Is there an age limit for contributors?
All contributors must be 18 or older.
Is NSFW content allowed?
Yes! NSFW content will be separated into an optional add-on.
How will contributors be compensated?
Contributors will receive a free digital copy of the zine.
Are virtual photography and 3D rendering allowed?
Both are welcome!
Are tavs/durges allowed?
Content may feature platonic & romantic relationships, character studies, origin characters, and original tav/durge characters.
Is zine experience required?
No! People at all levels of experience are welcome to apply.
Why is the zine rebranding?
Our previous head mod made dismissive and disrespectful comments regarding m/f pairings and another zine on a public server, in addition to unfairly implying two sapphic community members are homophobic. Due to this, he stepped down and is no longer part of the project.
Those unprofessional and biased remarks painfully demeaned and belittled members of the LGBTQ+ community, including but not limited to those who identify as lesbian, bi, pan, and non-binary and gender diverse individuals. Those hurtful statements starkly oppose the values of our zine and the diverse voices still standing with us.While we can’t undo the harm done by our former head mod’s words and actions—nor the loss of trust that has come with it—we believe in the ability this project has to celebrate all queer identities—especially those that often face erasure or go ignored in fandom spaces. To our lesbian, bi, pan, a-spec, trans, and gender diverse community members; you belong here, and your voices deserve equal weight and appreciation.Out of a desire to properly showcase the diverse identities in the BG3 community, and to garner as much support for our original charities as we can, we decided to rebrand and continue on with the project. How will you ensure the zine includes representation across the spectrum of queer identities?
Our contributor application will include a section to indicate what characters/ships applicants are interested in creating for. We will use that, in addition to a pitch selection process, to help us make the zine as diverse as possible.
